Writers are divine, demiurgically composing reality from the firmament of their imaginations. They like to knowingly use split infinitives for dramatic effect, recognize that a simile is like a metaphor, and understand the importance of the Oxford comma. Having a command of language gives them the ability to pen their own creation myth. They can send readers through space and time with fiction or create a new persona in a well crafted resume. They can share the complexities of the natural world through scientific journals or call people to action with witty picket signs. Language is symbolic action allowing people to use words to communicate complex ideas.
